MaaS - Mobility as a Service From Concept to Delivery
Abstract: The integration of various forms of transport services into a single mobility service accessible on demand is now on the mood. Moreover, it a real need in our generation and the solution for our mobility needs.
MaaS fulfills users’ needs for mobility with a wide range of transport services for both travelers and goods, offering tailor-made transport on demand. To meet a customer’s needs, a MaaS service provider arranges the most suitable transport means, be it public transport, taxi or car rental, or even ride-, car- or bike-sharing.

Bio: Prof. Monteiro Figueira is since 1990 the General Director of
CEITConsultores Engenheiros em Infraestruturas de Transportes, a
Portuguese consulting firm focusing on transportation, parking,
mobility, traffic engineering and roadways and Senior Professor at the
Universidade Lusofona (ULHT) in Lisbon.
Prof. Monteiro Figueira consults on many projects regarding mobility and transportation in Portugal, Angola, Mozambique and Macao and is the author of books and articles on highway design and transportation planning. He is currently involved in different projects in Africa (Angola and Mozambique) for governmental departments.
Prof. Monteiro Figueira worked at JAE - Official National Board of Highways in Portugal for thirty years and was a representative of Portugal at the European Commission in Brussels, at DG VII.
He was a Professor for more than twenty years at the Technical University in Lisbon until 2000 and at Military Academy, until 1999.

SocialCar: Integrating carpooling into existing mobility and public transportation systems
Abstract: SocialCar is a European research and innovation project that seeks to incorporate carpooling (people commuting together on a same vehicle) into existing mobility and public transportation systems, by means of powerful planning algorithms and big data integration from public transportation, carpooling systems, and crowd sourcing.
The project unites transportation engineers, social and economic scientists, information technology experts, carpoolers and public authorities from Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Hungary, Spain and Belgium. Their mission is to design, develop, test and roll out a service that simplifies the travel experience of citizens in urban and peri-urban areas. SocialCar will define data processing flows and design algorithms to match travel requests with the integrated public-private transport supply, complemented by a reputation-based mechanism based on social media.
After a general overview of the project, a detailed description of the route planning and ride matching engines at the basis of the system will be provided. These component are used to provide the users with meaningful alternatives for their trips.
Bio: He is professor of advanced algorithms at the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland and lecturer at the University of Lugano. He is active as a senior researcher at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA), Switzerland. He obtained a Laurea degree in Computer Science from the University of Bologna, Italy in 1999 and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Glamorgan, UK in 2002. His main research interests are in mathematical programming modeling and heuristic algorithms development for optimization problems.

Prof. Gabriel Lodewijks, University of New South Wales, Australia
In 1999 Prof. Gabriel Lodewijks moved back to the Netherlands and was appointed professor of transport engineering and logistics at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands in 2000. In 2003 he was appointed head of the department of marine and transport technology and later deputy dean of the faculty of mechanical, maritime and materials engineering. In 2007 he was appointed Chief Technology Officer of the Schiphol group, a company that operates airports around the world. In 2008 professor Lodewijks was appointed scientific director of the Delft Centre of Aviation. Besides being active at TU Delft, he works as visiting/guest/chair professor at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, Wuhan University of Technology, Beijing University of Science and Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, all in China, and Newcastle University, Australia. Presently he works in University of New South Wales, Australia.His areas of interests are logistics and transport engineering in the aviation cluster. He works on problems associated with the optimization of maintenance, repair and overhaul processes, automation of air cargo handling systems, improvement of the quality of the flower supply chain handled through air cargo, tracking and tracing of equipment, components and people at airports and in aviation related companies, optimization of gate processes and baggage handling procedures to reduce the turn around time of aircraft, maintaining safety and security in airport logistic processes, and the improvement of passenger experience by streamlining airport logistics.
